1st Stage of Filtration: Fluoride Reduction – Made in USA

The first filtration stage in the Doulton under sink system uses a specialised fluoride removal cartridge containing a high-purity aluminum oxide media.

This adsorbent filter media is made from the same crystalline mineral corundum that rubies and sapphires consist of. Through a selective adsorption process, fluoride ions chemically bond to the media’s oxidized surface sites as water passes through.

With an extremely porous structure, the media provides an abundant 200 square meters of adsorption surface area per gram. This maximizes contact between the passing water and the media, allowing for thorough fluoride removal.

The high-purity corundum media, with its vast adsorptive surface area and selective binding affinity for fluoride, enables robust stage one fluoride reduction within the Doulton system.

2nd Stage of Filtration: Doulton Ultracarb – Made in UK

The second filtration stage in the Doulton undersink system utilizes the Ultracarb® cartridge, which combines mechanical and adsorptive filtration:

Outer Ceramic Shell:

• Manufactured from Doulton’s Sterasyl® ceramic with submicron pores that mechanically filter out particulates, bacteria, cysts, and turbidity.
• Incorporates trace silver for bacteriostatic properties to inhibit microbial growth.

Inner Carbon Block Core:

• Made from dense, extruded NSF-tested coconut shell carbon that adsorbs chlorine, tastes/odors, chemicals, pesticides, and heavy metals.
• Achieves NSF certification for reduction of chlorine/taste/odor and emerging contaminants.

The dual-action mechanical and adsorptive filtration of the Ultracarb® cartridge provides robust stage two polishing to produce clean, great-tasting water.

Important Note: When changing cartridges it is very important that the new fluoride cartridge be flushed alone in the system for 10 – 15 minutes before adding the Doulton Ultracarb back into the system.  This prevents the flushing from the fluoride cartridge running through the next stage.

The Omnipure Fluoride Cartridge uses Activated Alumina to reduce fluoride by 99%. Through selective adsorption, fluoride ions bind to the cartridge’s oxidised surface, removing them from your water supply. This advanced filtration media ensures your drinking water is virtually fluoride-free. 

The Doulton® Ultracarb’s three-stage filtration process to purify water – 2nd Stage

Outer Ceramic Shell:

• Manufactured from proprietary Sterasyl® ceramic material with submicron pores that mechanically trap particulates, sediment, bacteria, cysts, and turbidity through size exclusion.
• Incorporates trace levels of silver that act as a bacteriostatic agent to inhibit bacterial growth within the shell.

Inner Filtration Core:

• Contains highly adsorbent, activated carbon made from NSF-certified coconut shells to reduce chlorine, organic compounds, and improve taste/odor.

• Also includes ion exchange resin beads designed to attract, bind, and remove dissolved heavy metals like lead and zinc.

Ion Exchange Resin: 

• Heavy metal removal media for the reduction of lead and other heavy metals.

By combining filtration in the outer shell with filtration in the inner core, this candle filter provides extensive removal of particulates, pathogens, chlorine, organics, and heavy metals for optimized water quality and safety.
