It depends on the type of benchtop water filter:
As a general rule, it’s a good idea to run at least 5–10 litres of water through any new filter, regardless of type. This helps flush out any loose particles, carbon dust, or manufacturing residues. Once the water runs clear, it’s safe to drink. Always check the manufacturer’s instructions for specific recommendations.
It’s common for water to appear cloudy right after replacing a filter. This is usually caused by tiny air bubbles or loose carbon particles from the new filter. These are harmless and will disappear after running the water for a few minutes.
To clear the cloudiness, simply run the tap for 5-10 minutes.
